Super Shuffle Engine 4 Instructions (SSE4)

The SSE4 instruction set is used in the intel Core Microarchitecture and AMD Processors.
Intel HD boost is a set of 47 new, SSE4 instructions. These instructions are designed for boosting performance of Gaming, Video Encoding, Intense Graphics, and also supports other media tasks. Each instruction can perform a complex specialized task across a larger block of data. To complete these tasks faster, the super shuffle engine can perform 128bits at time in a single clock cycle without any software changes. The SSE instructions can require a variety of data formatting operations. These include packing, unpacking, wide shift and more. The new super shuffle engine improves performance for all generations of SSE instructions. It has SSE4.1, SSE4.2 and SSE4a instructions.

45nm Technology and Benefits

The implementations of High-k and Metal Gate materials marks the biggest change in transistor technology since the introduction of poly silicon gate MOS transistor.
Transistors are shrunked to reduce size of cores and for performance. When transistors are reduced in size they cause an electron leakage passing through the insulations. This causes energy wasting and heats up and causes the transistors to fail. Previous versions of 65nm processors had the overheating problems due to this issue.

This problem has been overcome by changing the basic materials of the transistor. Intel has replaced the silicon gate and silicon dioxide insulation with its newly invented High-k and Metal Gate layers. These reduce the electron leakage enabling the transistor to work at low temperature and less energy consumption.

This enables the SSE4 (HD Boost) instructions set. It also has new Raidex-16x which helps faster 3D transformation.

It also increases efficiency and processor performance by large cache size in ultra processing area.

The bigger L2 cache stores and delivers frequently accessed data to processor faster than the RAM.
Deep power down technology and enhanced Intel dynamic acceleration technology together helps reduce power consumption. Thus less chances of burning the chips.

The above advantages are achieved only because of the Success of 45nm technology. Also 32nm technology is coming. Watch for the benefits soon…..

Difference between Quick Format and Normal Format in Windows

There is not Much difference between these two options.
Formatting
To format a drive, right click on drive and choose format. Be sure you have taken backup of your data before you proceed with format of any drive. When we use format our data is erased completely and left as a clean drive. It only does the formatting job and does not do anything to the physical harddisk or Formatting does not cause damage to your harddisk.

QUICK FORMAT
When you try to use quick formatting on any drives, it formats the drive into NTFS or Fat32 as specified. This do not take much of time and can be done easily. This process does not check the physical condition of the harddisk.

NORMAL FORMAT
When we use the normal formatting on hard drives, it will do the formatting in specified format. This also runs an utility during format, called chkdsk.exe (check disk). The function of the check disk tool is to find and repair bad sectors on the physical disk. This process takes place during format itself and so it takes lot of time to complete compared to quick format.
If you are sure that your harddisk is in good health, then use the quick format, else go for normal format.

According to me, Switching over to vista now is right. Before you install vista in an older PC, check if you meet the minimum requirements for installing Windows Vista.
